Maazin Kamal is an award-winning screenwriter, director and photographer from Karachi, Pakistan with an MFA in Screenwriting from the American Film Institute Conservatory in Los Angeles and a BA in Cinema Studies from York University in Toronto. His feature screenplay Buraq won the Gold Prize in the Family Film category at the 2017 Page Awards, and has previously won the Empire Award for Drama at the 2016 New York Screenplay Contest and advanced to the semi-finals of the 2015 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting. His first two narrative shorts, The Wolf and the Wayfarer and Bobo have screened at festivals in the United States, the Netherlands, Romania and Iran. Maazin is currently writing and developing his first narrative feature as a director, a crime drama set in Pakistan titled Messenger.
